Quilts of Valor and the Bird Count from From My Carolina Home

With more time to sew this week, progress was made on the Quilt of Valor begun last week. When we left off, the top was assembled and ready to quilt. It uses a panel with six star blocks and large sections of a patriotic print.

I loaded it on the longarm frame, and began auditioning thread colors looking at light blue, navy, red, and white. I didn’t take any photos of that. Ultimately, I decided on a light blue Glide thread for the top with light blue Bottom Line in the bobbin. The backing is blue with light and ...

Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

Colder temperatures have brought the birds to the feeder this past week. My Sweet Babboo put a new suet cake out for them and it was eagerly pounced upon by this downy woodpecker.

The cardinal pair came by too, along with an entourage of goldfinches still wearing their winter drab. But they are brightening up a bit here and there and in a month or so will be vibrant yellow again.

The male shares the feeder with another goldfinch.
